The Walk - A Meditation 2020

[Location]

Desert Dairy, Twenty-nine Palms, CA

[Exhibition Description]

"The Labyrinth at the Desert Dairy: The Walk - A Meditative Journey" by Linda Litteral delves into the rich historical and cultural significance of labyrinths. Inspired by the early labyrinths of ancient Greece, which served as ceremonial paths for male priest dancers during springtime celebrations to evoke renewal in the land, society, and psyche, Litteral reimagines this archetype as a vessel for women's empowerment and introspection. The labyrinth is recast as a space where visitors can embark on a journey towards the center of their being, shedding old patterns and debilitating emotional memories in pursuit of personal transformation and enlightenment.

Through "The Walk," participants are invited to navigate the labyrinth either with a specific intention or to let the labyrinth guide their steps, symbolizing the process of discovering the sacred in the mundane. Litteral's work stands as a contemporary reclamation of a historically male-dominated ritual, transforming it into a source of strength, creativity, and safety for women. This exhibition engages with themes of rebirth, the power of ritual movement, and the search for inner peace, offering visitors a reflection on the potential for a journey to catalyze personal and collective transformation in the modern world.
