#Fall of Freedom - FIG Artists Respond
Farm - Anna Stump
The country, and the countryside, is under siege.
Woman Warrior - Kirsten Aaboe
The women of the world are life-givers, strong and powerful, but continually oppressed by corruptions of what it takes to be alive and well. We women must fight with the best of all weapons - our love.
Are We Decor - Lauren Elyse S.
Thoughts about the ways in which women's bodies are talked about and legislated over as though we don't have inherent rights, choice, and autonomy.
Blah, blah, blah - Bridget Rountree
Hand cut photomontage combining two disparate images questioning the cost of climate change, immigration, and the fall of freedom.
Echoes of Silence - Judith Christensen
“Echoes of Silence” chronicles the stories of three children in Germany and Poland during the Holocaust. Hitler’s regime silenced voices of dissent. Imprisonment, then disappearance followed. The pattern, which we hoped to never experience again, is happening again. This time in the United States. These children’s voices need to be heard. They remind us how catastrophic and tragic this path to a totalitarian regime is. Because they were silenced, we need to speak often and loudly.

Not My Supreme Court - Kathy Nida
This was created in reaction to recent Supreme Court decisions regarding climate change, health insurance, gun control, and reproductive, affirmative action, and LGBTQIA rights, referencing each current Justice's ethics and focus, plus their personal and cultural backgrounds and any other issues they had coming into the court or as a Justice. Bader-Ginsburg is included in memoriam, watching over the current justices. An Earth Goddess holds the Supreme Court building in her gut while outstretching her arms above the Justices. The effects of their decisions are stationed on her arms. A change in Justices shouldn’t mean an about-face change in the decisions the Supreme Court makes. This Court cannot be trusted; it is not a court of the people.

My Stained Hands: The Stickiness of Touch - Ruth Wallen
A illustrated reading of intimate conversations with a girdled tree whose bark has been circumferentially removed as part of an effort to prevent forest fires. Through these exchanges, she will reflect on how to touch and be touched by a tree in the forest, the power of fire, the legacy of settler colonialism, and the ongoing ecological degradation of our times.
Outspoken - Helen Redman
Being a mother and grandmother, I can’t help but feel the retro grip that is being imposed on every aspect of women’s health. Is being turned into a robot doll or AI version of womanhood the punishment for our outspokenness? Yet the puppet-like figure on this mixed media board is bursting out of her binding and the frame itself.
Sequoia Seedlings Ask for a Thousand Year Commitment - Ruth Wallen
Sequoias, who can live for up to three millennia, challenge us to think in their time frames. While thirteen to nineteen percent of all sequoias living in their native habitat perished in fires in 2020-2021, young saplings are growing in their stead, offering the promise of a new generation. Can we commit to nurturing these seedlings for the next millennia or more? Instead of thinking only of immediate gain, promoting continued extraction of coal, oil and gas while ignoring the ever-growing environmental consequences, now is the time to ask how humanity can regenerate living systems, how we can change the ways that we live, from agricultural, to economic, and cultural practices, to give back to the earth more than we take, so that the sequoias and all living beings may flourish long into the future.
Old School Fascism - Cindy Zimmerman
These images can be found on the Trump regime's US Department of Labor website and social media accounts. Having no original ideas on how to tell lies, they borrow lies from another authoritarian era: the Aryan "master race," sentimental homes and gardens, a perfect nuclear family. Inviting hatred, greed, and all kinds of violence.
Fall of Reproductive Freedom? - Mary Pennell
Saving Lives - Kirsten Aaboe
The commitment of so many to respect and save lives is under severe threat. Lies are spreading like the plague and trust is undermined. How can we stay alive and well?
FIG artists are united around the freedom to express our views of ourselves, our communities and our world in ways that are unconstrained. These commitments flow directly into resistance to authoritarianism and how our voices are heard through our work. We celebrate these freedoms in ourselves and each other.
