Women: Artists and Poetry 2019

[Location]

Lyceum Theater Gallery, San Diego, CA

[Exhibition Description]

In partnership with San Diego Repertory Theatre and alongside the thought-provoking play "A Doll’s House, Part 2," the Lyceum Theater Gallery hosted the "Women: Artists and Poetry" exhibition from November 2018 to January 2019. This exhibition, presented by the Feminist Image Group (FIG), delved into the nuanced experiences of women concerning marriage, love, gender roles, and motherhood, both in the context of the nineteenth century and the ongoing discussions of women's rights in the United States today.

Each artwork in the exhibition by FIG members was paired with a poem, by the artist themselves, a friend, or from the public domain, to enrich the viewer's experience and dialogue with its sister artwork. This unique blend of visual art and poetry served as a platform for the artists to express their personal and contemporary interpretations of the themes at hand, supporting FIG’s mission to showcase the diverse and dynamic work of women artists.
